Summer House on an Island in the Amstel

In this new-build project, the challenge lay in harmoniously blending traditional aesthetics with the home’s contemporary essence. The pursuit of maintaining clean, straightforward lines while infusing richness through materials such as zellige tiles and antique lyed wood doors brought both charm and character to the modern space.

In this interior design project, our aim was to mirror the tranquility and authenticity of nature. We chose to furnish the space predominantly with functional items such as pots and pans, which not only serve practical purposes but also contribute to the room’s natural aesthetic. Patterns and shapes inspired by the outdoors further underscored this theme.

For a striking contrast, we introduced abstract shapes exclusively within the lighting fixtures, a deliberate choice that highlights their uniqueness. The materials selected—linen, wood, rattan, bamboo, wool, and zellige tiles—were all chosen for their durability and natural texture, reinforcing the space’s connection to the natural world.

Our design philosophy revolves around redefining traditional spaces, with the bathroom being no exception. To move away from a conventional bathroom feel, we introduced elements traditionally seen in more luxurious settings. A lavish vanity and an ornate mirror set a tone of sophistication.

Complementing this opulence, we placed a bobbin bench—simple yet playful, grounding the space with its earthy charm. The flooring, at first glance, appears as simple white tiles, but upon closer inspection, reveals a stunning marble laid in an intricate star pattern. In line with our love for elevating overlooked details, even the humble toilet roll holder becomes a focal point, creatively transformed to enhance the overall aesthetic of the room.
